About Bonikka Dolls: A Sri Lankan Doll Brand Made for First Cuddles

Bonikka started with a doll called Monica. A father gave her to his daughter as a symbol of love and security when she left home. Years later the doll passed to that daughter's youngest daughter, who went on to lead the design team.

That story is the idea behind the brand: every little girl should get to share in the tradition of a first doll. Bonikka is made in Sri Lanka by DSL Lanka, a soft-toy maker with more than 20 years in the industry before the brand launched at the International Toy Fair in Nuremberg in January 2014. That same year the Honey doll from the All Natural collection won Silver in the Dolls category at the Independent Toy Awards in the UK.

The range today includes rag dolls, organic cotton and linen dolls, angels and fairies. ALL 4 KIDS stocks a selection for Australian families.

Bonikka Soft Dolls for Cuddles and Imaginative Play

A soft doll is often a child's first doll. It is easy to hug, carry and take to bed, and the simple features leave room for a child to decide who the doll is and what happens next. Looking for more cuddly friends? Browse our plush toys.

Bonikka Linen Rag Dolls

Amelia, Priscy and Cecilia are the linen dolls in the collection. Amelia and Cecilia have brown hair and Priscy is blonde.

Soft Body Dolls for Toddlers

A soft body doll suits toddlers who are starting to play pretend. Feeding, tucking in and carrying are all easy with a light, floppy doll. If you are shopping for a doll for a 1 year old, check the age grading on the product page first.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are Bonikka dolls made?

Bonikka dolls are made in Sri Lanka by DSL Lanka, a soft-toy maker with more than 20 years in the industry before the brand launched. Each product page notes that the dolls are manufactured with socially responsible practices. You can see every doll in our dolls collection.

What is the story behind the Bonikka brand?

Bonikka began with a doll called Monica, which a father gave to his daughter as a symbol of love and security. The brand launched at the International Toy Fair in Nuremberg in January 2014 with one idea: every little girl should get to share in the tradition of a first doll. Meet Amelia to see the style for yourself.

Are Bonikka dolls suitable for babies and newborns?

All eight Bonikka dolls in our collection are listed as suitable from newborn. The smallest is the Green Outfit Baby at 28cm. As with any toy, supervise young babies during play and read the details on each product page.

What are Bonikka dolls made of?

It depends on the doll. Angelina and Aurora have a 100% organic cotton body and hair with a cotton muslin dress. The Green Outfit Baby is 100% cotton, and Grace is a cotton and polyester blend. The linen dolls have a polyester body with a cotton printed dress. Grace, the Green Outfit Baby, Amelia and Priscy are stuffed with recycled PET bottle fibre.

Are Bonikka dolls organic?

Only the two fairy dolls, Angelina and Aurora. Both are labelled organic and OE100 certified. The other Bonikka dolls are not sold as organic, so check the materials on each product page if that matters to you. For more soft toys, browse our plush toys.

How do I wash a Bonikka doll?

Handwash only. Do not bleach, tumble dry, iron or dry clean. Where the outfit is removable, take it off first so the dress and the doll can be cleaned separately. If you want a spare outfit or extras, see our doll accessories.

Can I take the doll's clothes off?

Yes. The dresses and outfits on all eight dolls are removable, which makes cleaning easy and lets you dress them up for a special occasion. A few pieces stay on: Grace's hat, the Green Outfit Baby's headband and shoes, and Cecilia's striped tights. You can see the details on the Cecilia and Grace pages.

How big are Bonikka dolls?

Amelia, Priscy, Cecilia and Jayden stand 42cm tall. Grace is 35cm, Angelina and Aurora are 33cm, and the Green Outfit Baby is 28cm. Not sure which size suits? Compare them side by side in the dolls collection.

What comes with the baby dolls in carry cots?

Each one is a 4-piece set. Grace comes with her carry cot, a blanket and a bottle. The Green Outfit Baby comes with a knitted carry cot, a blanket and a dummy. More extras are in our doll accessories.

Which Bonikka doll is best for a first doll or a gift?

All of them are listed from newborn, so any soft body doll works as a first doll. The product pages describe the carry cot sets, Grace and the Green Outfit Baby, as a gift for a new big brother or sister. For fairy-garden play, choose Angelina or Aurora, and add some pretend play toys to round out the gift.
