What is in the Le Toy Van Groceries Set & Scanner
This wooden grocery set comes with a shopping basket, over a dozen pantry staples and a play barcode scanner. The food covers the usual weekly shop: spaghetti, olive oil, cookies, cereal and chocolate, all painted to look like the real thing. It has won awards, and it is easy to see why when you watch a child restock the basket for the fifth time.
The basket and the food
The basket holds all 15 pieces. Little shoppers load it up, carry it across the room and unpack it onto a shelf, which is good practice for carrying and sorting.
The scanner
The scanner is what turns tidying into a game. A beep and a swipe over each item, and the checkout is open. Add a few plastic coins or paper receipts and you have a full till routine.
Play ideas for the checkout
Let your child be the cashier first, then swap. Ask for "two cereals and one chocolate, please" to practise counting and listening. Older kids can write a shopping list, tick items off and add up a pretend total. The set slots straight into any shop play corner.
Size, safety and materials
The set measures about 19 cm long, 14 cm wide and 15 cm high. It is made from FSC-certified wood with child-safe paints, and it suits ages 3+.
How it differs from the Weekly Shop
If you are choosing between sets, the Supermarket Grocery Weekly Shop is a 12-piece fridge and pantry set without a scanner. This one has the basket and the scanner, so it plays well on its own. Add a cash register or a shopping trolley to build out the whole shop.
