A wooden toy camera that looks the part
The Le Toy Van Vintage Camera is a chunky wooden toy camera with a black body, natural wood trim and a lens that does something. Twist the front ring and the kaleidoscope lens turns, so the view changes every time a child lifts it to one eye. Most three-year-olds pick it up and refuse to put it down.
How kids play with it
Twist, peek and click
Hold it up, look through the lens and turn. Colours shift and break apart. The push shutter button has a satisfying press, and the camera mode settings on the back can be switched, so there is always something to adjust before the photo.
Little photographer role play
Line up the teddies for a class photo, shoot the dog, record a backyard picnic. Kids narrate as they go ("say cheese!"), which builds language and turn-taking without anyone calling it learning. For more pretend jobs, browse our role play toys.
Small enough for a bag
It measures about 10.5 cm wide, 5.8 cm deep and 6 cm high, and weighs 140 g. That fits a toddler's grip and a nappy bag pocket. A cotton wrist strap keeps it off the floor on the walk to the park. The wood is FSC-certified and the camera suits ages 3+.
A gift that travels well
Because it is compact, it works as a birthday present on its own or tucked in beside a bigger one. Builders who like to document the job will enjoy it next to Alex's Work Bench, and the Animal Vet Set supplies very patient photo subjects. The rest of the Le Toy Van range is in one place.
