A wooden lion with a proper mane
Every safari needs a boss. This wooden lion toy sits at about 8.5 cm long and 5.9 cm high, with a warm brown body and a darker chestnut mane. It is chunky enough to look confident next to the taller animals.
What makes it a keeper
Wooden toy animals for 3 year olds get dropped, thrown in the bath and dragged through the garden. The lion is cut from solid rubberwood, so it copes with that kind of life, and the water-based stain stays on the surface rather than rubbing off on little hands.
Pride and pretend
Lions live in groups, so kids often set up a family, a hunt or a big roaring match against the wooden rhino. The lion also holds its own inside the Safari Adventure Set, which comes with vehicles and people for a full expedition.
You will find more of these figures in the Small World Play collection.
Safety and age
Painted with water-based stain and sanded smooth. Small pieces mean it is suited to children aged 3 and over.
